🚨 2026 Audi Q6 e-tron: Emergency Neutral

The 2026 Audi Q6 e-tron uses an electronic monostable shifter on the center console that returns to center position after each selection.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and wheel chocks are in place
  2. Attempt to power on the vehicle by pressing the brake pedal and pushing the start button - even with a low 12V battery, there may be enough power to shift
  3. If the shifter remains locked, locate the small circular or rectangular cap on the center console near the shifter base
  4. Use a flathead screwdriver or trim tool to carefully pry off the shift lock override cap
  5. Insert a key, screwdriver, or similar tool into the override slot and press down firmly while attempting to move the shifter
  6. If no mechanical override is accessible or 12V power is completely dead, you must jump-start the 12V battery or connect an external power source to enable the electronic shifter
  7. Once powered, press the brake pedal, then press the shifter button (if present) and move to N position
Shift-lock override location
Expected near the shifter base on the center console under a small cap, but exact location unconfirmed for this new model
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic shifter will not function. You must jump-start the 12V battery (located in the front compartment) or connect a battery maintainer to enable shifter operation. The high-voltage EV battery does not help if the 12V system is dead.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: This is a battery-electric vehicle. If the vehicle cannot be shifted to neutral electronically, it MUST be transported on a flatbed with all wheels off the ground. Do NOT tow with any wheels on the ground as the electric motors will be forced to rotate without lubrication/control, causing severe damage. Consult the owner's manual for the specific tow mode procedure, which typically requires accessing vehicle menus when powered.
