🚨 2019 Audi Q8: Emergency Neutral
The 2019 Q8 uses Audi's electronic monostable shifter, a small lever on the center console that returns to center position after each gear selection.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake if functional.
- Turn the ignition to ON position (press start button twice without brake pedal, or insert emergency key blade into slot under door handle and use to access ignition).
- Locate the shift lock override—there is a small removable cover just forward and to the right of the shifter base on the center console.
- Use a flat-blade screwdriver or the emergency key blade to carefully pry off the small rectangular override cap.
- Insert the screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down firmly.
- While holding the override release down, pull the shifter rearward (toward P) past the center position to engage N.
- The shifter should click into N—verify by checking the instrument cluster display if powered.
- If the vehicle has zero electrical power and the override does not mechanically release the shifter, the transmission is locked and flatbed towing with all wheels off the ground is required.

With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery, attempt to get ignition accessory mode active by jump-starting the 12V system even minimally. The electronic shifter may require some electrical power to unlock mechanically. If jump-start is not possible and override does not function, flatbed towing with all four wheels off the ground is mandatory—do NOT tow with any wheels on the ground as the transmission remains in Park electronically.
