🚨 2026 Audi RS e-tron GT: Emergency Neutral

The 2026 RS e-tron GT uses a compact electronic gear selector on the center console with positions for P, R, N, and D.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and wheel chocks are in place.
  2. Attempt to power on the vehicle by pressing the brake pedal and pushing the start button - even with a depleted high-voltage battery, the 12V system may have enough reserve to enable drive selection.
  3. If the 12V battery is completely dead, you must jump-start or charge the 12V battery enough to restore minimal electrical function - the e-tron GT requires 12V power to release the electronic parking brake and enable the shifter.
  4. Once 12V power is available, press and hold the brake pedal firmly.
  5. Move the gear selector to N (Neutral) position.
  6. To release the electronic parking brake, pull and hold the parking brake switch while maintaining brake pedal pressure - this requires functional 12V power.
  7. If 12V power cannot be restored, the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground using wheel dollies or a full flatbed.
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, there is no mechanical shift-lock override accessible to the owner. The electronic systems, including the gear selector and electronic parking brake, are completely inoperable. You must either restore 12V power via jump-starting (jump point is under the hood on the driver's side) or load the vehicle onto a flatbed with wheel dollies. Do not attempt to tow with any wheels on the ground.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: The RS e-tron GT is a pure EV with permanent magnet synchronous motors. Never tow this vehicle with any wheels touching the ground - doing so will generate electricity back into the drive system and cause severe, expensive damage to the motor and inverter electronics. Always use a flatbed with all four wheels lifted or use wheel dollies. Even in N, the motors are mechanically connected to the wheels.
