The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake firmly
- Attempt to turn the ignition to ON position - the electronic shifter requires electrical power to function
- Press and hold the brake pedal
- Locate the shift lock override - look for a small cover or slot on the right side of the shifter base or in the center console storage area near the shifter
- Remove the override cover (it may be under a rubber mat or small plastic cap in the console)
- Insert a small flathead screwdriver or key blade into the override slot and press firmly while attempting to move the shifter from P to N
- The C8 platform's shift-by-wire system may require at least minimal battery voltage to activate the transmission range selector even with the override
- If successful in engaging Neutral, the vehicle can be pushed or loaded onto a flatbed
