🚨 2024 Audi RS7: Emergency Neutral

The 2024 RS7 Sportback uses Audi's electronic console shifter with a traditional lever pattern and shift lock button integrated into the lever mechanism.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake if functional.
  2. Insert the key fob into the ignition slot (if equipped) or have it present in the vehicle.
  3. Press the brake pedal firmly.
  4. Press and hold the shift lock release button on the top of the shifter lever while simultaneously moving the shifter to Neutral.
  5. If no electrical power: locate the shift lock override access—a small rectangular cover on the center console to the right rear of the shifter base.
  6. Use a small flathead screwdriver or the key blade to pry off the override cover.
  7. Insert the screwdriver into the override slot and press down firmly while moving the shifter to Neutral.
  8. Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be rolled or winched onto a flatbed.

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic shifter lock remains engaged. You must use the mechanical shift lock override slot (accessed by removing the small cover near the shifter base) and manually press the override while moving the shifter to N. This requires physical force.
