The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake if functional.
- Insert the key fob into the ignition slot (if equipped) or have it present in the vehicle.
- Press the brake pedal firmly.
- Press and hold the shift lock release button on the top of the shifter lever while simultaneously moving the shifter to Neutral.
- If no electrical power: locate the shift lock override access—a small rectangular cover on the center console to the right rear of the shifter base.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or the key blade to pry off the override cover.
- Insert the screwdriver into the override slot and press down firmly while moving the shifter to Neutral.
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be rolled or winched onto a flatbed.
