🚨 2018 Audi TTS: Emergency Neutral
The 2018 Audi TTS uses a monostable center-console shifter (spring-return joystick) that controls the S tronic dual-clutch transmission electronically.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake if functional.
- Insert the key fob into the ignition slot (or have it in the vehicle for Keyless Access models).
- Press and hold the brake pedal firmly.
- Press the Engine Start/Stop button without pressing the brake to cycle to 'Ignition ON' (accessory power—dash lights up but engine does not start).
- With ignition on and brake pressed, move the shifter rearward to the 'N' (Neutral) position—it will spring back but the transmission should engage neutral.
- Verify neutral engagement by checking the instrument cluster display shows 'N'.
- If the shifter will not respond (shift interlock failure), locate the shift lock release override: remove the small rectangular cover panel on the left side of the shifter base (driver's side of the console); insert a small flathead screwdriver or key into the exposed slot and press down while moving the shifter to neutral.
- Once in neutral, the vehicle can be pushed or rolled onto a flatbed.
Shift-lock override location
Small rectangular cover panel on the left (driver's) side of the shifter base; press down in the slot beneath it with a screwdriver while moving shifter.
With zero electrical power
With a completely dead 12V battery, the monostable shifter will not function electronically and the shift lock override will also not work. You must jump-start the vehicle or connect an external 12V power source (jumper pack to the jump-start terminals under the hood) to power the shifter module enough to select neutral. The override release requires at least accessory power to unlock the shifter mechanism.
