🚨 2005 Bentley Arnage: Emergency Neutral

The 2005 Arnage uses a traditional console-mounted J-gate automatic shifter with electronic shift interlock.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged and the vehicle is on level ground.
  2. Turn the ignition key to the ACC or ON position if battery power is available.
  3. Locate the shift lock override slot on the left side of the shifter base, underneath a small removable plastic cap.
  4. Use a small flathead screwdriver or the key blade to pry off the override cap.
  5. Insert the screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pulling the shifter out of Park.
  6. If the vehicle has no electrical power, you must connect a jump pack or charger to provide at least minimal 12V power to release the electronic shift lock—the mechanical override still requires some power to the solenoid circuit.
  7. Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be moved or loaded onto a flatbed.

With zero electrical power
The shift interlock system requires at least minimal 12V power even when using the mechanical override. Connect a jump pack or battery charger to the battery terminals (located in the trunk on most Arnage models) to provide power before attempting the override procedure. Without any power, the solenoid will not release.
