⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and apply the parking brake firmly
- Turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start the engine) if battery power is available
- Locate the shift lock override access point—look for a small cover panel on the driver's side of the shifter console base or underneath the shifter bezel
- Using a small flathead screwdriver or trim tool, carefully remove the access cover
- Insert the physical key blade or a small screwdriver into the revealed override slot and press down firmly
- While holding the override depressed, press the brake pedal and attempt to move the shifter to Neutral
- If the 12V battery is completely dead, you must connect a jump pack or donor battery to the vehicle's battery terminals under the hood to energize the shift-by-wire system
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be rolled or winched onto a flatbed
Shift-lock override location
Near the base of the center console shifter assembly, typically on the driver's side; accessed by removing a small trim cover. Exact location requires inspection as the third-generation redesign changed console architecture.
With zero electrical power
The 2020+ Flying Spur uses full shift-by-wire with electronic actuation. With zero 12V power, the transmission cannot be shifted even with the manual override. You must supply temporary power via jump pack or donor battery to the main battery under the hood. Once power is restored, the override can mechanically release the shift lock interlock.
