🚨 2021 BMW 330i: Emergency Neutral
The G20 330i uses an electronic shifter (shift-by-wire) with a small console lever that returns to center position after each shift input.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Apply parking brake and chock wheels
- Jump-start the 12V battery or connect external power - the electronic shifter REQUIRES electrical power to operate
- With power restored, press the brake pedal and press the START/STOP button without pressing the clutch to get to ignition ON
- Press brake pedal and tap the shifter forward or backward to engage neutral
- If external power is available but shifter still won't respond, check for a manual transmission position release procedure in the owner's manual
- If absolutely no power can be obtained, the vehicle cannot be shifted electronically and MUST be loaded onto a flatbed with wheels off the ground
- For flatbed loading with dead battery: all four wheels should be off the ground, or use wheel dollies, as the parking brake is electronic and transmission cannot be shifted
Shift-lock override location
There is no traditional mechanical shift lock override on this electronic shifter; some models may have an emergency release procedure requiring partial disassembly - consult dealer service information
With zero electrical power
CRITICAL: This electronic shifter-by-wire system is fully electronic and CANNOT be shifted without 12V power. You must jump-start the battery or connect a power supply. If no power source is available, the vehicle cannot be put in neutral and must be transported on a flatbed with all wheels off the ground or on dollies. The parking brake is also electronic and may not release without power.
