🚨 2019 BMW 430i: Emergency Neutral
The F32 430i uses an electronic shift-by-wire steptronic shifter, a console-mounted lever that springs back to center after each input.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged and the vehicle is on level ground
- If you have any 12V power available, turn the ignition on by pressing the start button without pressing the brake pedal
- Locate the shift lock override: there is a small rectangular access panel on the left side of the shifter base on the center console
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or trim tool to carefully pry off the access panel
- Insert a screwdriver or key into the exposed override slot and press down firmly
- While holding the override down, attempt to move the shifter to Neutral (push forward once from Park)
- If the shifter releases, move it to Neutral; the gear indicator should show N if power is available

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic shifter and transmission are fully locked. The manual override alone will NOT work without at least accessory power to energize the transmission control module. You must jump-start the 12V battery or connect a portable jump pack to provide power, then use the override. Without any power source, flatbed towing is required.
