⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is applied and the vehicle is on level ground.
- Locate the shift lock override access point: a small rectangular cap on the right side of the shifter base (passenger side).
- Use a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the override cap.
- Insert a key, screwdriver, or similar rigid tool into the exposed override slot and press down firmly.
- While holding the override down, move the shifter into the Neutral position.
- If the vehicle has no electrical power, you must jump the 12V battery first—the electronic shifter requires some electrical power to disengage from Park even with the override.
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be pushed or towed with all four wheels on the ground for short distances at low speed (refer to owner's manual for distance limits).

With zero electrical power
The electronic shifter requires at least some 12V power to function. Jump-start or connect a battery booster to the vehicle's jump-start terminal (under hood) before attempting the shift lock override. Without any power, the transmission will remain locked in Park.
