🚨 2022 BMW 750i: Emergency Neutral
The G11/G12 7-Series uses an electronic Steptronic shifter (small forward/backward console lever) with full electronic shift-by-wire operation and electronic parking brake.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground or properly chocked (the electronic parking brake may not release without power)
- If possible, connect a jump pack or jumper cables to provide 12V power - the electronic shifter requires power to operate normally
- With power restored: press the brake pedal, press the Start/Stop button to position II (ON) without starting the engine, then move the shifter to the Neutral position
- If absolutely no power is available and the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed: the transmission will remain in Park electronically and the parking brake will remain engaged - the vehicle must be dollied or winched onto the flatbed
- Some G11/G12 models have a mechanical shift lock override access point under a small cover on the lower console near the shifter base - consult the owner's manual supplement or look for a small rectangular cover - however, this may only release Park and will not help with the electronic parking brake
- To move the vehicle any significant distance without power, flatbed towing is required
Shift-lock override location
May have small rectangular override cover on lower console near shifter base, but location varies by production date and this only addresses shift lock, not the electronic parking brake
With zero electrical power
The G11/G12 7-Series electronic shifter and electronic parking brake both require 12V power. Without power, the transmission cannot be shifted electronically and the parking brake cannot be released. A jump pack or jumper cables are essential. If no power can be provided, the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed with dollies or winched - it cannot be pushed or rolled.
