🚨 2024 BMW 750i: Emergency Neutral

The 2024 BMW 750i (G70 generation) uses an electronic console-mounted gear selector lever with shift-by-wire technology and electronic parking brake.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and chock the wheels securely
  2. Attempt to start the vehicle or place ignition in accessory mode if battery has any charge remaining
  3. Depress and hold the brake pedal firmly
  4. If shift-lock engages, locate the shift-lock override slot - it is a small covered opening on the left side of the shifter base near the console
  5. Remove the small plastic cap covering the override slot using a flathead screwdriver or trim tool
  6. Insert a small flathead screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down while simultaneously pulling the shifter lever rearward to N
  7. If electronic parking brake (EPB) is engaged and has power, press and hold the EPB switch while in N; if no power, EPB will remain engaged
  8. With EPB engaged and no power, vehicle must be placed on flatbed - do not attempt to drag with rear wheels on ground

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the shift-lock override should still function mechanically to release the shifter to N. However, the electronic parking brake will remain locked. Jump-starting from the front jump-start terminal under the hood is recommended to release EPB before moving. If no jump-start available, vehicle must be flatbedded as rear brakes will be locked.
