🚨 2026 BMW M3 G80: Emergency Neutral
The G80 M3 uses a small electronic console-mounted shift lever with a button on the side for Park release.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and parking brake is engaged (or wheel chocks are in place).
- Locate the shift-lock override slot: it is beneath a small rectangular cap directly to the LEFT of the shift lever base on the center console.
- Use a flat-blade screwdriver or the removal tool from the vehicle toolkit to carefully pry off the cap.
- Insert a key, screwdriver, or small rigid tool into the exposed slot and press down firmly.
- While holding the override down, move the shift lever rearward through the gate to Neutral (one position back from Park).
- If the steering column is locked and you need to steer, you may need to apply 12V power to the vehicle or use a jump box momentarily to unlock the steering column before flatbed loading.

With zero electrical power
With zero power, the shift-lock override slot still functions mechanically to release the shifter into Neutral. However, the steering column lock will remain engaged; you cannot steer without at least momentary 12V power to release the steering lock. The vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed with the front wheels on dollies or the entire car on the bed.
