🚨 2022 BMW M3: Emergency Neutral

The procedure
- Engage the parking brake if operational and confirm the vehicle is on a level, stable surface.
- If the 12V battery is dead, jump-start the vehicle: open the hood and locate the red plastic cover over the positive jump-start terminal on the right side of the engine bay, near the strut tower. Connect jumper cables to the positive terminal and a solid ground point.
- Once 12V power is available, sit in the driver's seat, depress the brake pedal, and press the start/stop button to power up the vehicle to accessory mode (engine does not need to start).
- With the brake pedal depressed, move the gear selector forward or backward to select neutral (N). The shifter will return to center; verify 'N' is shown in the instrument cluster.
- If the gear selector will not move due to shift interlock or a failed brake-light switch, locate the shift-lock override: find a small rectangular plastic cover at the base of the gear selector on the center console, typically on the left side of the shifter.
- Carefully pry off the cover using a small flathead screwdriver or plastic trim tool.
- Insert a small screwdriver, key, or the trim tool into the override slot and press down while moving the gear selector to neutral.
- If the 12V system cannot be restored, the electronic parking brake and shifter will remain locked; transport the vehicle on a flatbed.

With zero electrical power
Without 12V power, the electronic parking brake, DCT transmission control, and shift interlock will not release. You must jump-start the 12V battery or use a flatbed for transport. Do not tow a DCT M3 with drive wheels on the ground unless the transmission is in neutral and 12V power is available.
