The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is set (if functional) and the vehicle is on a flat, stable surface.
- If the 12V battery is dead, jump-start the vehicle: open the hood and locate the red plastic cover on the positive jump-start terminal on the right side of the engine bay, near the right strut tower. Connect jumper cables to the positive post and a suitable ground point on the chassis or engine block.
- Once 12V power is restored, sit in the driver's seat, depress the brake pedal, and press the start/stop button to activate the vehicle's accessory mode (the engine does not need to start).
- With the brake pedal held down, move the gear selector forward or backward to select neutral (N). The shifter will spring back to center; confirm 'N' appears in the instrument cluster display.
- If the shifter is locked due to a failed brake-light switch or shift interlock, locate the shift-lock override: look for a small rectangular plastic cover at the base of the gear selector on the center console, usually on the left side adjacent to the shifter.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or plastic trim tool to gently pry off the cover.
- Insert a screwdriver, key, or the trim tool into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously moving the gear selector to neutral.
- If 12V power cannot be restored, the electronic parking brake and shift lock will not release; the vehicle must be transported on a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground.

With zero electrical power
Without 12V power, the electronic parking brake, DCT, and shift interlock cannot be released. You must jump-start the 12V battery or load the vehicle onto a flatbed.
