🚨 2026 BMW X3 xDrive30i: Emergency Neutral
The G45 X3 (2025+) features a redesigned console-mounted electronic shifter with a smaller, more modern lever design.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and the parking brake is engaged.
- Locate the shift lock override — on the G45 generation, look for a small covered slot near the shifter base on the console, typically on the right side or front of the shifter assembly.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or the vehicle's key to pry off the cover cap.
- With the ignition off (or in ACC if you have any battery power), insert the screwdriver into the override slot and press down firmly.
- While holding the override depressed, press the release button on the shifter and move it to the neutral position.
- Release the override tool and verify the shifter remains in neutral — without power, you will not have dash confirmation.
- The vehicle can now roll freely; use wheel chocks and verify neutral by attempting to push the vehicle slightly.
Shift-lock override location
Near the shifter base on the console, likely on the right side — exact location may vary slightly from G01 generation; check owner's manual or look for a small removable cap near the shifter
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic systems will be completely dark and the shift lock remains engaged. The mechanical override slot still functions to release the shifter. You will not have electronic confirmation of gear position. The steering wheel will remain locked without at least ACC power from a jump source.
