⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged and the vehicle is on level ground.
- If any battery power remains, turn the ignition to accessory mode (press START/STOP button without brake pedal).
- Press and hold the brake pedal firmly.
- Push the gear selector lever forward and hold for about one second to select neutral.
- If the shifter will not move and you have battery power, check fuse F87 in the rear luggage compartment fuse box (shift interlock circuit).
- If there is no electrical power, locate the shift lock override slot: remove the small trim cap on the right side of the shifter base (near where it meets the console).
- The cap may have a small notch for prying with the metal key blade or a small flathead screwdriver.
- Insert the key blade or screwdriver into the exposed override slot and press down firmly.
- While holding the override down, push the gear selector forward to neutral.
- The vehicle can now roll freely; maintain chocks and caution when releasing the parking brake.

With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery, use the mechanical shift lock override: pry off the small cap on the right side of the shifter base, insert the key blade or screwdriver into the slot, press down, and move selector to neutral. Steering will remain locked—vehicle must be towed on a flatbed with all wheels free or with front wheels off the ground using a wheel dolly.
