⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Apply the parking brake firmly and chock the wheels
- Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if battery has any charge remaining
- Locate the shift lock override slot on the driver's side of the shifter base, covered by a small rectangular cap directly forward of the shifter button
- Use a flathead screwdriver or key to pry off the small cap covering the override slot
- Insert a screwdriver, key, or similar tool into the override slot and press down firmly
- While holding the override down, press the shifter button and move the shifter to Neutral
- If the vehicle has absolutely no electrical power, you must jump the 12V battery minimally to energize the shifter solenoid before using the override

With zero electrical power
The eAssist hybrid system requires at least minimal 12V power to release the shift lock even with the override. Jump-start the 12V battery or connect a jump box to provide power to the shifter solenoid, then use the override procedure. The high-voltage hybrid battery does not need to be active.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
This is a mild hybrid (eAssist) with a traditional transmission. The vehicle can be flat-towed in Neutral for short distances, but Buick recommends flatbed transport for distances over 15 miles to avoid potential transmission damage. Ensure the high-voltage system is off before towing.
