The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly set and wheels are chocked.
- Turn the ignition to the ACC or ON position if battery power is available.
- Locate the shift-lock override access on the left side of the steering column shroud, near the shifter lever base.
- Remove the small plastic cover over the override slot by carefully prying with a flathead screwdriver.
- Insert a small flathead screwdriver or similar tool into the override slot and press firmly.
- While holding the override depressed, press the brake pedal (if available) and move the shifter to Neutral.
- If brake pressure is unavailable, maintain pressure on the override and pull the shifter toward you while moving to Neutral.
- Release the override once Neutral is engaged and confirm the vehicle rolls freely.

With zero battery power, the shift-lock solenoid defaults to the locked position on most units. Attempt the override procedure first.
