🚨 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ: Emergency Neutral

The 2025 Escalade IQ is a fully electric vehicle using an electronic push-button or electronic lever shifter system on the center console.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and parking brake is engaged if possible.
  2. Attempt to power on the vehicle: press the brake pedal and press the power button to enter the ON/READY state.
  3. If the 12V battery is not completely dead and the vehicle powers on, press and hold the brake pedal, then press the 'N' (Neutral) button or move the electronic shifter to Neutral.
  4. If the vehicle will not power on due to dead 12V battery, you must jump-start the 12V system (locate the 12V battery, typically under the hood or in a service compartment) or provide external 12V power to energize the vehicle electronics.
  5. Once 12V power is restored, enter the ON state, press brake, and select Neutral.
  6. For towing or flatbed loading with no power available: consult the owner's manual for the specific 'Transport Mode' or 'Tow Mode' procedure—many EVs require a specific sequence or may have a manual release procedure documented in the manual.
  7. If no Transport Mode is accessible, the Escalade IQ should be loaded onto a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground to prevent damage to the electric drive system.
Shift-lock override location
The electronic shifter may have a shift lock override access near the shifter assembly; check for a small cover on the console around the shifter base. However, even with mechanical override, the EV drivetrain requires 12V power to disengage Park electronically.
With zero electrical power
The Escalade IQ's electronic parking mechanism and drivetrain require 12V power to release Park and shift to Neutral. With a completely dead 12V battery, the vehicle cannot be shifted without jump-starting or providing external 12V power. Do NOT attempt to tow with drive wheels on the ground; the electric motors and inverters can be damaged. If 12V power cannot be restored, the vehicle must be transported on a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL EV WARNING: The Escalade IQ is a battery electric vehicle. The electric drive system must not be towed with any drive wheels on the ground unless the vehicle is in a proper Neutral/Tow Mode (if available) and the manufacturer explicitly allows it. If you cannot power on the vehicle to engage Neutral or Tow Mode, you MUST use a flatbed or trailer with all four wheels off the ground. Towing an EV improperly can cause severe damage to the motors, inverters, and high-voltage battery system. Always refer to the owner's manual for the specific towing and transport procedures for this electric vehicle.
