⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply wheel chocks
- Attempt to power the vehicle ON by pressing the start button with the key fob present (if 12V auxiliary battery has any remaining charge)
- Press the brake pedal and press the 'N' (Neutral) button on the gear selector
- If the 12V system is completely dead and buttons are non-responsive, you must access the manual shift lock override
- Locate the small rectangular override cap on the console to the left or front of the gear selector button panel
- Use a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the override cap
- Insert the tool into the override slot and press down firmly while attempting to press the Neutral button
- If vehicle still cannot be shifted, the tow mode procedure must be used (see evWarning below)

With complete 12V battery failure, the electronic shift buttons will not respond. The manual shift lock override slot may still allow neutral engagement, but if the vehicle's body control module is completely unpowered, tow mode must be engaged following the manufacturer procedure in the owner's manual, or the vehicle must be transported on a flatbed with all wheels off the ground.

CRITICAL: The Escalade IQL is a full battery-electric vehicle with electronically controlled park pawl. If you cannot engage Neutral through normal or override means, do NOT attempt to tow with any wheels on the ground. The electric drive motors are always mechanically connected to the wheels, and flat-towing will cause catastrophic damage. Transport on a flatbed only.
