🚨 2025 Cadillac Escalade: Emergency Neutral
The 2025 Escalade uses an electronic push-button shifter array mounted on the center console with P, R, N, D buttons, similar to the 2024 model.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and parking brake is engaged if possible.
- Turn the ignition to ON/RUN position (press START button without brake pedal twice) to provide power to the shifter electronics.
- Press and hold the brake pedal.
- Press the 'N' (Neutral) button on the shifter panel.
- If the vehicle does not shift to neutral and brake pedal is depressed, the shift interlock may be faulty—proceed to override procedure.
- Locate the shift lock override: there is a small cover cap on the center console near the shifter button panel, typically on the lower left side of the button assembly.
- Use a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the override cover cap.
- Insert the screwdriver or ignition key into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pressing the 'N' button.
- The transmission should release into neutral; if successful, you can now roll the vehicle.

With zero electrical power
With no electrical power (dead battery), the electronic shifter will not function. You must jump-start the vehicle or provide external 12V power to the battery to energize the shifter system, then follow the normal neutral selection. If unable to provide power, the vehicle must be placed on a flatbed or dollies with all four wheels off the ground, as the transmission cannot be shifted mechanically without power.
