🚨 2020 Caterham Seven: Emergency Neutral

The 2020 Caterham Seven with automatic transmission (if equipped) uses a floor-mounted sequential or conventional automatic shifter; most Sevens are manual transmission.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and apply the handbrake firmly
  2. If the Seven has an automatic transmission (rare configuration), turn the ignition to ON position if battery has charge
  3. For most automatic-equipped Sevens, locate the shift lock override near the shifter base
  4. Remove any covering cap and insert a small tool into the override mechanism
  5. Press the override while moving the shifter to Neutral
  6. Note: Most Caterham Sevens are manual transmission and can simply be shifted to neutral by depressing the clutch and moving the lever
Shift-lock override location
If automatic transmission equipped, override mechanism typically located near shifter base - however, most 2020 Sevens are manual transmission vehicles
With zero electrical power
If this is a manual transmission Seven (most common), simply depress the clutch pedal and move the shifter to neutral - no electrical power needed. For rare automatic versions, the mechanical override near the shifter base should function without power.
