🚨 2021 Caterham Seven: Emergency Neutral
Caterham Seven vehicles are traditionally equipped with manual transmissions; factory automatic transmissions are extremely rare or non-existent in this model line.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Verify the vehicle actually has an automatic transmission (highly unusual for a Caterham Seven)
- If equipped with a sequential manual or automated manual, locate the shifter in the center console area
- Look for a shift lock release button or slot near the base of the shifter
- Press and hold the brake pedal (if 12V power available)
- Insert a small flathead screwdriver or key into any override slot while pulling the shifter to neutral
- If no override is present, the transmission may need to be manually shifted at the gearbox itself
With zero electrical power
With no electrical power, a true manual transmission can be shifted freely. If this is an automated manual or sequential, you may need to access the transmission directly under the vehicle to manually move the selector mechanism, or disengage the clutch actuation system if so equipped. Consult Caterham-specific documentation for your transmission type.
