The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and set the parking brake if functional.
- The Blazer EV has no mechanical shift-lock override because the transmission is fully electronic—there is no physical cable to disengage.
- With a dead 12V battery, you CANNOT shift out of Park electrically. Jump-start the 12V battery (located under the hood) using another vehicle or portable jump starter.
- Once 12V power is restored, press the brake pedal and press the N button to shift to Neutral.
- If the brake-light switch has failed (and battery is good), press and hold the N button for 2-3 seconds without pressing the brake—some GM EVs allow this override.
- If jump-starting is not possible and the vehicle must be moved, the vehicle MUST be placed in tow mode or transported on a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground.
