🚨 2002 Chevrolet Blazer: Emergency Neutral
The 2002 Blazer uses a traditional column-mounted shift lever with a mechanical shift-lock button on the lever itself.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Set the parking brake firmly and chock the wheels
- Turn the ignition key to the ACC or ON position (if battery has any charge)
- Press and hold the brake pedal firmly
- Press the shift-lock button on the right side of the shift lever and move to Neutral
- If the shift-lock button will not release due to dead battery or failed brake switch, locate the shift-lock override slot
- The override slot is located on the lower steering column shroud, directly below and slightly to the right of the shift lever base
- Remove the small plastic cover cap from the override slot
- Insert a flathead screwdriver or the key blade into the slot and press down firmly
- While holding the override down, move the shift lever to Neutral
- Remove the tool and replace the cover cap

With zero electrical power
With zero power, the mechanical override will still function. You may need to manually turn the ignition lock cylinder to the ACC position using the key to unlock the steering wheel and allow column access. The override mechanism is purely mechanical and does not require battery power.
