🚨 2012 Chevrolet Corvette C6 ZR1: Emergency Neutral

The C6 ZR1 automatic uses a traditional console-mounted PRNDL shift lever with electronic shift lock.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure parking brake is fully engaged and wheels are chocked
  2. Turn ignition to ACC or ON position if battery has any charge remaining
  3. Firmly depress brake pedal
  4. Locate the shift lock override slot on the driver's side of the shifter base, behind a small removable cap
  5. Remove the rubber cap covering the override slot
  6. Insert a small flathead screwdriver or key into the override slot
  7. Press down firmly on the override while pulling the shift lever toward you and moving to Neutral
  8. If successful, release the override and verify the shifter is in Neutral

With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery, the shift lock override will still function mechanically. Use the override slot method as described. You may need to manually unlock the steering column by turning the key. If the electronic parking brake is engaged and battery is completely dead, the vehicle cannot be safely moved and must be jump-started or charged enough to release the parking brake first.
