🚨 2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7 Stingray: Emergency Neutral

The C7 automatic uses a console-mounted electronic shift lever with push-button Park release and electronic shift lock.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure parking brake is engaged and wheels are chocked
  2. Attempt to turn ignition to ACC or ON position if any battery power remains
  3. With ignition on, depress brake pedal firmly
  4. Press the Park release button on top of the shifter while moving lever to Neutral
  5. If brake interlock prevents shifting, locate the shift lock override access
  6. Look for a small removable cover/slot in the console trim forward and to the left of the shifter base
  7. Remove cover and insert a small screwdriver into the override slot
  8. Press override mechanism while pressing Park release button and shifting to Neutral
Shift-lock override location
Small access slot in console trim forward and to the driver's side of the shifter base; exact location requires inspection of console trim panels near shifter
With zero electrical power
The C7's electronic shifter requires at least some electrical power to function. With completely dead battery, the electronic shift mechanism may not release even with the override. You will likely need to provide auxiliary power (jump box or jump-start) to get minimum electrical function for the shifter to release. If this is not possible, the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed with wheels off the ground using dollies or skates.
