🚨 2021 Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray: Emergency Neutral

The C8 Corvette uses an electronic push-button shift-by-wire system with a short console-mounted lever for Park/Reverse/Neutral/Drive.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and chocked, as the electronic parking brake may not hold without power
  2. Locate the shift-lock override slot on the driver's side of the center console, directly forward and below the shifter lever assembly (beneath a small rubber cap or trim piece)
  3. Remove the rubber cap or trim cover to expose the override slot
  4. Insert a small flathead screwdriver or the key blade fully into the override slot
  5. While holding the screwdriver in the slot, press the brake pedal (if any residual hydraulic assist remains) and move the shifter to Neutral
  6. If no power exists for the electronic shifter display, the shifter may still physically move to Neutral with the override engaged—you will not see position confirmation on the instrument cluster
  7. If the electronic parking brake will not release without power, the vehicle must be placed on a flatbed with the rear wheels lifted or use the EPB manual release procedure in the owner's manual

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic shifter may not provide feedback or lighting, but the mechanical override should still allow physical movement to Neutral. The electronic parking brake will NOT release without power—use the manual EPB release cables (requires accessing rear calipers) or flatbed the car with rear wheels off the ground. Do NOT tow with rear wheels down.
