🚨 1995 Chevrolet Corvette: Emergency Neutral

The 1995 C4 Corvette uses a traditional floor-mounted console shifter with electronic shift lock controlled by the brake pedal.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged and wheels are chocked.
  2. Turn the ignition key to the ACC or ON position if battery power is available.
  3. Locate the shift lock override slot on the left side of the shifter base, near the driver's side of the shifter housing—it may be covered by a small plastic cap that pries off.
  4. Insert a small flat-head screwdriver, key, or similar tool into the override slot and press down firmly.
  5. While holding the override down, press the shifter button and move the shifter to Neutral.
  6. If the ignition cannot be turned on due to dead battery, proceed to the no-power procedure below.

With zero electrical power
With a completely dead battery, the electronic shift lock cannot be overridden electrically. You must provide 12V power to the vehicle: use a jump box or jumper cables connected to another vehicle to energize the electrical system enough to turn the ignition to ACC/ON and allow the shift lock override to function. Alternatively, disconnect the shift lock solenoid connector (requires console disassembly) to mechanically free the shifter.
