🚨 2006 Chrysler 300 SRT8: Emergency Neutral

The 2006 300 SRT8 uses a traditional console-mounted PRNDL shifter with electronic shift interlock controlled by the brake-light circuit.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged and the vehicle is on level ground or properly chocked
  2. Turn the ignition to the ACC or ON position if battery has any charge remaining
  3. Locate the shift-lock override slot: look for a small rectangular cap or cover on the center console directly to the left of the shifter base, near the passenger side of the shifter housing
  4. Use a small flathead screwdriver or key to gently pry off the override cap
  5. While firmly depressing the brake pedal (if possible), insert the screwdriver into the override slot and press down firmly
  6. While holding the override down, move the shifter out of Park into Neutral
  7. If successful, replace the override cap and verify the vehicle rolls freely in Neutral

With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery, the override slot mechanical release still functions. You do NOT need electrical power to use the shift-lock override—the mechanism is purely mechanical. However, turning the key to ACC may help if any residual power exists. The override bypasses the electronic interlock entirely.
