🚨 2004 Chrysler 300M: Emergency Neutral
The 2004 Chrysler 300M uses a traditional PRNDL console-mounted shifter with electronic shift-lock tied to the brake pedal (LH platform).

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Set the parking brake firmly.
- Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if battery has any charge (this may allow normal brake-and-shift operation).
- If no power or brake interlock failed: locate the shift-lock override—on the 300M, look for a small cover or access slot in the shifter console trim, typically to the left or front-left of the shifter lever base.
- Remove the cover (may be a snap-in plastic cap) using a small flathead screwdriver.
- Insert the screwdriver or similar tool into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pulling the shifter release button and moving the lever to Neutral.
- If battery is completely dead, the interlock solenoid may remain engaged; attempt the override but be prepared to apply a brief jump or external 12V to release the lock.
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be pushed or winched onto a flatbed.
Shift-lock override location
Small cover or slot in the console trim to the left or front-left of the shifter base; LH-platform 300M may have override integrated into the console side panel.
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the shift-lock may be very stiff. Attempt the mechanical override; if unsuccessful, apply a jump-pack briefly to energize the solenoid, then retry the override. As a last resort, dolly the vehicle onto a flatbed with parking brake released and wheels chocked.
