🚨 1994-2001 Chrysler LHS: Emergency Neutral
The 1994-2001 Chrysler LHS uses a column-mounted automatic transmission shifter with an electronic shift interlock controlled by the brake-light switch and ignition position.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and the parking brake is firmly engaged.
- Turn the ignition key to the ACC or ON position if the battery has any charge (not required for override, but helpful).
- Firmly depress the brake pedal.
- Locate the shift lock override: look for a small plastic cap or cover on the lower right side of the steering column shroud, near where the shifter lever emerges from the column.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or trim removal tool to carefully remove the cap.
- Insert the screwdriver into the override release slot and push down or in (depending on year-specific design) while simultaneously moving the shifter lever from Park to Neutral.
- If the battery is completely dead, the mechanical override still functions—maintain firm pressure on the override while shifting.
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be rolled or towed.

With zero electrical power
The shift lock override is mechanical and does not require electrical power. The ignition key position does not matter when using the override. Apply steady, firm pressure to the override release while moving the shifter to Neutral.
