The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and set the parking brake if functional.
- Locate the shift lock override access — there is a small rectangular cap/cover approximately 1 inch forward of the shifter base on the left side of the shifter housing.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or trim tool to carefully pry off the override access cap.
- Insert a key, small screwdriver, or similar tool into the revealed slot and press down firmly while attempting to move the shifter out of Park.
- With the override depressed, move the shifter rearward (toward D) to release the park pawl — the transmission should disengage from Park.
- If the vehicle has absolutely no 12V power, the electronic shifter will not communicate with the transmission control module; you must use the manual park release cable accessed from underneath the vehicle (dealer/professional procedure recommended).
- Once in neutral, the vehicle can be pushed or winched onto a flatbed.

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic shifter cannot communicate shift commands to the transmission. The shift lock override alone may not work.
