🚨 2007 Chrysler Sebring: Emergency Neutral

The 2007 Sebring sedan (JS platform redesign) uses a console-mounted PRNDL shifter with electronic shift interlock.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and parking brake is engaged
  2. Turn the ignition key to the ACC or ON position if battery has any charge remaining
  3. Locate the shift lock override - look for a small covered slot or access point near the shifter base on the console
  4. The override access is typically forward and to the left of the shifter, may require removing a small trim piece or rubber plug
  5. Insert a flathead screwdriver or similar tool into the override slot and press down firmly
  6. While holding the override down, press the brake pedal (if power available) and move the shifter to Neutral
  7. If no brake function, continue holding override and shift directly to Neutral
  8. Keep override pressed until shifter is fully engaged in Neutral

With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery, access the mechanical override slot. Insert tool and apply firm downward pressure while moving the shifter to Neutral. The mechanical release works without any electrical power. Ignition position is not required for the override to function.
