🚨 2019 Dacia Duster: Emergency Neutral

The 2019 Dacia Duster uses a conventional console-mounted automatic transmission lever with electronic shift lock.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and the parking brake is firmly applied
  2. Turn the ignition to the ON/ACC position if battery has any charge remaining
  3. Locate the shift lock override - look for a small rectangular cap or cover near the base of the shifter on the console
  4. Use a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the override cover cap
  5. Insert a screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down firmly
  6. While holding the override down, press the brake pedal (if power available) and move the shifter to Neutral
  7. If no power is available, continue holding the override down and apply firm pressure to move the shifter directly to Neutral
Shift-lock override location
Small cover cap near the shifter base on the console, typically on the right side or front of the shifter assembly
With zero electrical power
With a completely dead battery, the shift lock override must be used. The override mechanically releases the shift lock mechanism. You may need to apply more force to move the shifter without power assistance. Ensure the ignition is in ACC or ON position if any residual power exists.
