🚨 2024 Dacia Duster: Emergency Neutral

The 2024 Dacia Duster hybrid uses a console-mounted automatic shifter with electronic shift-lock and a manual override release.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and apply the parking brake firmly
  2. Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if possible (if battery has residual charge)
  3. Locate the shift-lock override slot—typically found as a small rectangular or circular cap near the base of the shifter assembly on the console
  4. Use a small flat-head screwdriver or similar tool to pry off the override cap
  5. Insert the screwdriver or tool into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pulling the shifter out of Park
  6. Move the shifter to Neutral
  7. If the ignition will not turn on due to dead battery, you may need to manually release the electronic parking brake or have the vehicle placed on a flatbed with the drive wheels off the ground
Shift-lock override location
Small cap-covered slot near the shifter base on the center console; exact position may be to the left or right side of the shifter lever base
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the shift-lock override should still work mechanically. However, the electronic parking brake may remain engaged and require a jump-start or auxiliary 12V power to release. If EPB cannot be released, flatbed towing with front wheels raised is necessary.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
This hybrid model may have a high-voltage system interlock. Do not attempt to tow with rear wheels on the ground for extended distances; consult the owner's manual for hybrid-specific towing restrictions. Flatbed towing is strongly recommended to avoid damage to the hybrid drive system.
