🚨 2017 Dacia Duster: Emergency Neutral
The 2017 Dacia Duster with automatic transmission uses a conventional console-mounted gear selector lever with a mechanical shift lock tied to the brake pedal switch.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure parking brake is firmly engaged and vehicle is on level ground
- Turn ignition to ON or ACC position if any battery power remains
- Press and hold the brake pedal firmly
- Locate the shift lock override - a small rectangular plastic cap on the left side of the shifter base, near where it meets the console
- Use a flathead screwdriver or the metal key blade to carefully pry off the override cap
- Insert the screwdriver into the exposed slot and push down firmly
- While holding the override down, press the release button on the shifter handle and move the lever from P to N
- The shifter should move freely to neutral - you'll feel it click into position
- Remove the screwdriver and replace the override cap

With zero electrical power
The 2017 Duster's shift lock is mechanically linked to the brake switch but has a physical cable/solenoid mechanism. With completely dead battery, the mechanical override slot should still function - no electrical power is needed for the override itself. Insert the screwdriver into the override slot and apply firm downward pressure while moving the shifter. If the shifter absolutely will not budge even with override, check that the parking brake is set (for safety) and verify you're pushing the override fully down.
