⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and the parking brake is firmly engaged
- Attempt to turn the ignition to ACC or ON if any 12V battery charge remains
- Locate the shift-lock override cover on the left side of the shifter base near the P position
- Use a flat-head screwdriver or similar tool to pry off the small rectangular override cover
- Insert the tool into the override slot and press down firmly
- While holding the override down, press the shifter button and move the shifter to Neutral
- Release the parking brake only when ready to load onto flatbed

With zero electrical power
The mechanical override functions without 12V power. However, hybrid system tow mode cannot be activated without power, so flatbed transport is mandatory even if you can shift to Neutral.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
HYBRID CRITICAL: This vehicle MUST be transported on a flatbed with all wheels off the ground. Do NOT tow with any wheels on the ground. The hybrid drivetrain remains mechanically connected in Neutral without proper tow mode activation (which requires 12V power), and towing can cause severe damage to electric motors and transmission.
