🚨 2007 Daewoo Matiz: Emergency Neutral

The 2007 Daewoo Matiz uses a traditional floor-mounted console shifter with a button-release mechanism and electronic shift lock.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Set the parking brake firmly and chock the wheels.
  2. Turn the ignition key to the ACC or ON position if the battery has any charge remaining.
  3. Locate the shift lock override slot: look for a small cap or cover on the left side of the shifter base, near the button on the console.
  4. Pry off the override cap with a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to expose the override slot.
  5. Insert a screwdriver, key, or similar tool into the override slot and press down firmly.
  6. While holding the override down, press the shifter button and move the shifter to Neutral.
  7. If successful, release the override and verify the vehicle is in Neutral before attempting to move it.
Shift-lock override location
Small cap or slot on the left side of the shifter base near the shift button on the console; exact position may vary slightly by model year but is typically adjacent to the shifter mechanism.
With zero electrical power
With zero electrical power, the shift lock override is your only option. No ignition position is required to use the mechanical override—simply access the override slot, insert a tool, press down, and shift to Neutral while holding the override.
