- Set the parking brake firmly and chock the wheels
- Turn the ignition key to the ACC or ON position if possible to provide power to the shift interlock solenoid

- If no power or the interlock is failed: Look at the shifter base - there is a shift lock override slot, typically covered by a small rectangular plastic cap located to the left or front-left of the shifter lever base
- Use a small flathead screwdriver to carefully pry off the override access cap
