The procedure
- Set the parking brake firmly and chock the wheels.
- Turn the ignition key to the ACC or ON position if any battery power remains.
- Locate the shift lock override slot on the lower steering column shroud, typically on the left side near the shifter base.
- Remove the plastic cover cap from the override slot by prying gently with a small flathead screwdriver.
- Insert a flathead screwdriver, key, or similar rigid tool into the override slot and press down firmly.
- While holding the override down, press the brake pedal and shift the column lever to Neutral.
