🚨 2007 Dodge Sprinter: Emergency Neutral

The 2007 Dodge Sprinter uses a column-mounted automatic transmission lever with electronic shift interlock.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Apply parking brake firmly and chock wheels
  2. Turn ignition to ON position if battery has any charge (do not start engine)
  3. Locate the shift lock override slot on the right side of the steering column shroud, just below and to the right of the shifter lever
  4. Remove the small rectangular rubber cap covering the override slot
  5. Insert a small flathead screwdriver or the key blade fully into the slot
  6. Press and hold the override firmly while pulling the shifter toward you and down into Neutral
  7. Keep brake pedal depressed during this process if possible
  8. If vehicle needs to move significant distance, verify parking brake releases properly

With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery, the shift interlock override is mechanical and will still function. You do not need any electrical power to access Neutral using the override slot. However, you will not be able to turn the steering wheel (locked) or release the electronic parking brake on some models - confirm parking brake can be manually released before attempting to move vehicle.
