🚨 2021 DS Automobiles DS 3: Emergency Neutral
The 2021 DS 3 uses a monostable electronic shifter that returns to center after each movement, typical of PSA Group vehicles.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake if functional
- Turn the ignition to ON/ACC position if 12V power is available (do not start engine)
- Press and hold the brake pedal firmly
- Move the shifter through its forward motion to select Drive, then press the small override button on the side of the shifter base while continuing to hold the brake
- If no power: locate the small circular cap or rectangular cover near the shifter base
- Pry off this cap using a flathead screwdriver or trim tool
- Insert a small screwdriver or key into the revealed slot and press down while attempting to move the shifter
- The transmission should release into neutral; confirm by attempting to roll the vehicle slightly
Shift-lock override location
Small cap near the shifter base, accessed by prying off the cover to reveal a manual release slot - check left side or front-left of the shifter base
With zero electrical power
With no 12V power, the monostable shifter cannot electronically select neutral. Use the manual override slot near the shifter base. The release mechanism requires inserting a tool into the slot and applying downward pressure while manipulating the shifter. PSA Group electronic shifters may require the shifter to be in a specific position during override.
