The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and the parking brake is firmly applied.
- Attempt to turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if any battery power remains.
- Locate the shift lock override access point near the shifter base—look for a small rectangular or circular cap.
- Carefully pry off the cap using a flathead screwdriver.
- Insert a small tool (screwdriver, key, or similar) into the override slot and press down firmly.
- While holding the override pressed, move the shifter toward Neutral position.
- If the hybrid system has any charge, briefly press the start button (without brake) to wake the electronics, then use override and shift to Neutral.

WARNING: DS 4 hybrid models should NOT be towed with drive wheels on the ground for more than short distances. The electric motor is integrated with the transmission and towing with wheels down can cause severe damage to the hybrid system. Use a flatbed or trailer with all wheels off the ground. If you must move the vehicle a few feet for recovery access, Neutral is acceptable, but immediately load onto a flatbed.
