⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake
- Press the start button to turn ignition to ON (do not start engine)
- Press and hold the brake pedal
- Press the 'N' (Neutral) button on the center console gear selector panel
- If the system does not respond due to low power, locate the small access panel near the gear selector button panel on the console
- Use a small flathead screwdriver to carefully pry off the access cap
- Insert the screwdriver into the shift lock override slot and press down while simultaneously pressing the N button
- If completely without power, contact Ferrari roadside assistance as the electronic parking brake and shifter may require dealer-level tools

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, all electronic systems are disabled including the electronic parking brake. The 12V battery is located in the front trunk (frunk). Jump-starting the 12V system is mandatory for normal operation. If jump-starting is not possible, the vehicle should be flatbedded. Ferrari hybrid systems are complex and forcing mechanical overrides without power can cause expensive damage to electronic components.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
The 296 GTB is a plug-in hybrid with a high-voltage battery and electric motor. NEVER tow this vehicle with any wheels on the ground. The electric drive system can be severely damaged by towing. Always use a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground. The high-voltage system remains potentially energized even with the 12V system dead. Do not attempt to access hybrid components. If the electronic parking brake cannot be released, the vehicle must be winched onto the flatbed with wheels locked.
