🚨 2024 Ferrari 296 GTS: Emergency Neutral

The 2024 Ferrari 296 GTS uses electronic push-button gear selection (R, N, D) integrated into the steering wheel or center console area with no mechanical linkage.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Attempt to start the 12V system by connecting a jump pack or donor vehicle to the battery (located in front trunk area)
  2. With 12V power restored, press and hold the brake pedal
  3. Press the 'N' (Neutral) button to electronically shift into neutral
  4. If electronic shift remains non-responsive, consult Ferrari service documentation for emergency mechanical release procedure specific to this model
  5. For flatbed loading: activate tow mode through the vehicle settings menu (if accessible) to unlock the transmission and steering
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic shifter cannot engage neutral through normal means. The 296 GTS requires 12V power restoration (jump start) to operate the electronic transmission controls. Without power, the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed with dollies or dragged with extreme caution as the transmission will remain in park.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: The 296 GTS is a plug-in hybrid. The high-voltage battery system remains live even with 12V power off. Never attempt to physically manipulate drivetrain components. If towing is required and 12V power cannot be restored, use flatbed ONLY with all wheels off the ground. Do NOT tow with any wheels on the ground as the electric motor and V6 drivetrain can be damaged. Activate tow mode in vehicle settings before transport if power is available.
