The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and set the parking brake
- Attempt to provide auxiliary 12V power to the battery if possible (jump pack or jumper cables) - this greatly improves success
- Turn the ignition to ON position if battery power is available
- Locate the shift lock override - look for a small rubber cap or cover near the shifter base on the console
- Remove the override cover cap
- Insert the ignition key or a small flat screwdriver into the override slot
- Press down firmly on the override mechanism while simultaneously moving the shift lever to N position
- If electrohydraulic pressure is available, the shifter should release to neutral
- If complete electrical/hydraulic failure, transmission must be placed in neutral mechanically from underneath by qualified personnel
