⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake firmly
- Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if battery has any charge remaining
- Locate the shift lock override slot - it is typically a small round or rectangular opening near the base of the shifter assembly, often covered by a removable cap
- Remove the cap covering the shift lock override slot (may require prying gently with a flat tool)
- Insert a small flat-blade screwdriver or the emergency key blade into the override slot
- While pressing down firmly on the override, press the brake pedal if possible and move the shifter to N (neutral)
- If successful, the shifter will release and can be moved to neutral position
- Keep the override depressed until the shifter is fully in neutral
Shift-lock override location
Near the base of the center console shifter assembly, typically on the right side or front face, under a small removable cap - exact position may vary
With zero electrical power
With zero electrical power, the shift lock override may still function mechanically on this model. If the override does not release the shifter with no power, the vehicle must be flatbed towed. Do NOT attempt to force the shifter. The electronic parking brake may also be stuck engaged with no power - consult Ferrari service documentation for EPB manual release if needed.
